You may or may not know about our stockpile of Used Stand Up Paddleboards, but we have a warehouse full of them. They are comprised of used team rider boards, blemished and dinged boards, prototypes for next year, and other custom shapes that are undesireable to shops because of their flaws. Maybe you want an SUP with a broken fin box... We won't judge you. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.
DJ checked out our used board vault and picked up a used Riviera 12'6" Carbon Prototype raceboard with a ding on the bottom.
Riviera,
I hate to use the word, but I'm super stoked on the board. From the moment I first stood up on it, I felt like it was made just for me.
It has a decent glide despite its flaw and drafts very well. I felt really stable and comfortable on it. I seemed to paddle a little more on the left to compensate for the ding on the right, but it didn't even matter to me. The whole race I just kept thinking to myself "this is your very own board you are paddling and it's the best one out here"
I can't wait to put in more time on it to get stronger and faster; start getting some respectable rankings.
Thanks again for Riviera's generosity, it is very, very much appreciated.
Attached is a pic I cleaned up in photoshop, plus a couple pics from this past weekends race, I'm in the green shorts.
Kind regards,
DJ

Riviera has Teamed up with Ramsay Mead of Paddle Core Fitness to bring you a series of workouts to strengthen your paddle stroke. Ramsay is an exercise physiologist, master of fitness sciences, and a core trainer for 20 plus years. Ramsay is certified by the National Academy of Sports Medicine as well as a registered yoga therapist and Holistic health practitioner. He brings his own unique style to the growing sport of stand up. The sport of SUP, in Ramsay’s eyes, represents the ultimate core expression infusing posture, balance, endurance and stoke. Ramsay’s philosophy is to train smarter, not necessarily harder and get the results you seek; live in the balance and improve the glide.
The sport of paddle boarding offers an impressive fitness as well as a developed lean muscular physique. However, with any new sport, new angles are hit, dormant muscles are forced into a new role and the nervous system begins a whole new way of learning. A new comer seeks preparation readiness and the novice looks to balance and overcome weakness while the elite map a define path to higher performance. All roads must lead to consistency, attaining personal satisfaction and the most rewarding and enjoyable process and few sports or activities offer such a rewarding experience as stand up paddle boarding.
Level 1 – Body Weight WorkOut
CORE Workout Level 1
Workout Notes:
Quadruped Core Exercise
The quadruped core exercise is a relatively simple, yet effective posture and balance exercise. It is often used as a diagnostic tool to determine whether someone has more balance on one side than the other. In the quadruped core exercise, you are simultaneously moving your opposite arm and leg. This technique is called cross-patterning, which is a popular movement pattern among many sports. As such, it is often used in athletic training and rehabilitation due to maintaining of a neutral spine. Here are steps in the exercise:
Step 1
Kneel on all fours. Inhale in preparation. As you exhale, activate your core by drawing your navel to your spine. Important: You should be able to do this without moving your spine.

The Quiksilver Waterman Collection Waikiki Paddle Festival was this past weekend, and the elite “Survivor SUP” race was stacked with stand up paddlers from all over the world in attendance. Travis Grant finished ahead of Danny Ching (Redondo Beach, California), and the designer of the course, Jamie Mitchell (Australia), who were second and third respectively. In the women’s division, California’s Gillian Gibree (San Diego) took the win over Hawaii pair Jenny Kalmbach and Candice Appleby respectively.
Congrats to 404 Team rider Danny Ching for his 2nd place finish.

A couple weeks ago Marko Foam came by Riviera Headquarters to load up on our scrap packing material. We had been saving scrap foam for a while and were happy to recycle it into something useful.
For the past decade Marko has been recycling their customer’s post-use EPS material into regrind and blending that in with virgin EPS material to create products that have 25% post consumer EPS content, as well as their 100% recycled EPS blank, Envirofoam Core 09. http://www.markofoamblanks.com/

"It was great day for SUP today at the Seaside Slide 7 Mile Paddleboard/SUP race which has been notorious in past years for it's gnarly Shore-break Surf & inclement weather which has claimed a few boards in the past!
Today we were blessed with sunny warm conditions with small surf across SoCal....although the race site at Reefside in Solana beach still managed to produce a few head high waves breaking top to bottom to make the departure and return a bit more exciting...Ugh!
Despite a little pounding through the rinse cycle paddling out (set on frigid cold water temp) to the Race start...the conditions were favorable for Stand Up Paddling with Northerly current paddling up the Coast toward Moonlight Beach and a nice little breeze to push us when we paddled bach South to the Finish Line....all the way chasing down Chuck Glenn who'd been leading most of the race....lucky for me we had an exciting sprint to the finish allowing me to take the Overall win and capturing the previous Course Record set by a Prone Paddler in 2004 with a time of 1hr 4 min. 16 seconds with a new Overall Course Record Time of 1 hr. 1min 29 seconds.
I may of had a slight advantage with the OM Trucker Hat, OnIt Pro, Xtrak Pad & Riviera Paddle! haha"
